The passive voice in ancient Indo-European languages: inflection, derivation, periphrastic verb forms

چکیده
Abstract The IE languages developed different strategies for the encoding of passive function. In some language branches, middle voice extended to function varying extents. addition, dedicated derivational formations arose in a number languages, such as Greek - ē-/-thē- aorist and Indo-Aryan ya- presents. Periphrastic involving verbal adjective or participle are also widely attested, played an important role building paradigm e.g. Romance Germanic languages. As periphrastic is attested Hittite alongside use middle, both seem be equally ancient. Some minor include lexical passives extensive lability verbs. A survey possible provides evidence rise disparate morphemes constructions, their ongoing incorporation into inflectional paradigms (paradigmaticization) given thus adding our knowledge about cross-linguistic sources morphology grammaticalization processes involved.

Alignment Across Oriental and Indo-European Languages
The linguistic characteristics of Oriental languages and Indo-European languages are very different. Using purely length-based algorithm could not produce high performance on aligning texts. This paper investigates the effectiveness of critical part-of-speech (POS) criterion on alignment under conditions of different search strategies and different register texts. Two metrics, recall and precis...
متن کاملIndo-European languages tree by Levenshtein distance
The evolution of languages closely resembles the evolution of haploid organisms. This similarity has been recently exploited [1, 2] to construct language trees. The key point is the definition of a distance among all pairs of languages which is the analogous of a genetic distance. Many methods have been proposed to define these distances, one of this, used by glottochronology, compute distance ...
متن کاملProto-Indo-European Lexicon: The Generative Etymological Dictionary of Indo-European Languages
Proto-Indo-European Lexicon (PIE Lexicon) is the generative etymological dictionary of Indo-European languages. The reconstruction of Proto-Indo-European (PIE) is obtained by applying the comparative method, the output of which equals the Indo-European (IE) data. Due to this the Indo-European sound laws leading from PIE to IE, revised in Pyysalo 2013, can be coded using Finite-State Transducers...
متن کاملNetworking Phylogeny for Indo-European and Austronesian Languages
Harnessing cognitive abilities of many individuals, a language evolves upon their mutual interactions establishing a persistent social environment to which language is closely attuned. Human history is encoded in the rich sets of linguistic data by means of symmetry patterns that are not always feasibly represented by trees. Here we use the methods developed in the study of complex networks to ...
